Bloom Where You’re Planted: DIY Face Planter Activity for Sorority Events

Spring brings this natural invitation to pause, reflect, and embrace growth. And this year we are approaching this season with intention, guided by a simple yet powerful theme: Bloom Where You’re Planted.

This theme reminds us that growth is not always about changing environments—it is about nurturing what already exists within us and around us. When supported by community, that growth becomes even more meaningful.

One of the ways we bring this theme to life is through a thoughtfully designed, hands-on experience: the DIY Face Planter Activity. This creative exercise blends reflection, self-expression, and connection, making it an ideal addition to any sorority or sisterhood-focused event.

🌸 Bringing the Theme to Life Through Experience

The DIY face planter activity is more than a craft—it is a symbolic and interactive experience designed to encourage reflection and connection.

Each sorority sister creates a planter in the form of a face, transforming a simple object into a personalized representation of growth, identity, and care. As the plant develops over time, it serves as a visual reminder of the importance of nurturing oneself and one’s environment.

Within your chapter or amongst your sorority sisters, this activity allows for:

  • Authentic self-expression

  • Meaningful conversation

  • Stronger interpersonal connections

🧺 What You’ll Need to Create the Experience

To facilitate this experience, you will need:

  • Styrofoam mannequin heads

  • Acrylic paint (neutral tones and accent colors)

  • Paint brushes and sponges

  • Paint pens or markers for detailing

  • Small plants (succulents, herbs, or flowers)

  • Potting soil

  • Craft knife (to create an opening for planting)

  • Optional decorative elements (fabric, accessories, embellishments)

✨ Designing the Experience Step-by-Step

1. Create Space for Growth

Carefully carve an opening at the top of the styrofoam head to create space for soil and planting. The host can pre carve these before the event to better support sorority sisters attending.

2. Encourage Creative Expression

Participants design and paint their planter to reflect their personality, mood, or current season of life. There is no wrong or write way, just being present.

3. Personalize the Details

Adding a little razzle dazzle goes a long way such as headwraps, jewelry, or affirmations can be added to bring each creation to life.

4. Bring It to Life

Your sorority sisters will add soil and place their chosen plant into the opening, completing the transformation.

💬 Creating Space for Reflection and Connection

To deepen the impact, as the chapter leader for chapter events or the hostess with the mostess, you can incorporate guided reflection prompts such as:

  • What am I currently nurturing in my life?

  • What areas of growth require more patience or care?

  • How can I better support myself and others in this season?

Closing the activity with a brief sharing or affirmation moment allows sorority sisters to connect and encourage one another.
